VP Debate III: Palin Seeks Expanded Powers

Joe Biden won. As we here had assumed, no, Sarah Palin did not soil her clothes, she held her own just fine, thank you very much. The folksy serial killer-with-a-smile persona, so clear in the governor race debates, was in evidence again tonight. And Sen. Biden was fully prepared for her.

But, the shocking main story out of tonight's VP Debate came at the very end, when Gwen Ifill asked:
IFILL: We're going to move on to the next question. Governor, you said in July that someone would have to explain to you exactly what it is the vice president does every day. ... But tell us now, looking forward, what it is you think the vice presidency is worth now.

PALIN: Of course, we know what a vice president does. And that's not only to preside over the Senate and will take that position very seriously also. I'm thankful the Constitution would allow a bit more authority given to the vice president if that vice president so chose to exert it in working with the Senate and making sure that we are supportive of the president's policies and making sure too that our president understands what our strengths are.
In other words, "I want 'to run' the Senate. I want to hold the Rubber Stamp!"

Palin, if vice president, would go beyond Dick Cheney and grab greater power for the VP in "running" the Senate, in order to push through the "seperate-but-equal" Legislative Branch anything a McCain White House would want.

How 'bout them apples?

Sorry, Governor, the Constitution clearly states the VP is in the executive branch, and sits in the Senate only if, and as, a tie needs to be broken. That's it. That's all. There's no sense of there being something else there, that simply needs to be chosen by any sitting VP.

The other nasty moment came when she made a grand gesture, pulling away from her lectern, and yelling at Biden:
PALIN: Your plan is a white flag of surrender in Iraq and that is not what our troops need to hear today, that's for sure. And it's not what our nation needs to be able to count on. You guys opposed the surge. The surge worked. Barack Obama still can't admit the surge works.
Palin, and by extention McCain, just called the overwhelming number of Americans who want out of Iraq, cowards and traitors. Either she is as insane as John McCain is, or she is perfectly happy to stay on the campaign's message, no matter how evil it is, or how nuts it makes her look.

It was nasty in tone at the moment, and reads even nastier looking backwards.

She needs to answer to that. Unfortunately, she stated she wouldn't be dealing with the press any more, also. She's most likely heading for that deep underground bunker that Cheney has spent so much time in. It looks like this is the last anyone will see of Sarah Palin until late November. Why should the GOP take any chances. They dodged a bullet at this debate; this isn't the time to be stupid. So, it looks like people are just going to have to dog McCain about this, in all of his stops.

And, for the record, we couldn't see any wire bulging in her clothes. But she did sound thoroughly canned and rehearsed in all of her statements.

Overall, she no longer is dramatically hurting the John McCain campaign (unless you're really listening to what she's saying), but she is not helping it, either.

So, Biden wins.
